Premier’s Science and Research Council
The Premier’s Science and Research Council (PSRC) provides advice to the South Australian Government on a wide range of issues related to science and R&D, including industry needs and partnerships, funding opportunities and priority areas for research.
The State Government views science, research and innovation as key drivers of economic growth. It is committed to building on the State’s existing strengths in universities, industry, research and education bodies to build a more innovative and prosperous South Australia.
Establishment of the PSRC, appointment of a Chief Scientist for South Australia, and the Government’s record of investments in science and research clearly demonstrate this commitment.
Chief Scientist’s role
The role of the Chief Scientist is to Co-Chair (with the Premier) the PSRC and to provide strategic advice to the Minister, the Premier and Cabinet on a range of science, technology and innovation matters, including:
- Realising the 10-Year Vision for Science, Technology and Innovation in South Australia (STI10)
- Optimising the benefits of State investments in science, technology and innovation and raising the State’s R&D profile
- Attracting additional investment in science and research in South Australia – from the Commonwealth, industry and other Australian and overseas organisations.
